Video from the scene also showed white paint splattered on a concrete pillar and State House steps. The word “Divest” appears to be written in black spray paint on other pillars.

State Police are investigating vandalism to the State House steps that occurred early Wednesday. A suspicious package, potentially left by the vandal, was later found on Boston Common, and the bomb squad was called in, according to State Police.

Police say paint was poured and sprayed on the State House before a suspicious package prompted a bomb squad response.
