PHOENIX (AP) — DeWanna Bonner has rejoined the Phoenix Mercury, signing as a free agent on Tuesday. She helped the franchise win two WNBA titles in her previous stint with the team which drafted her fifth in 2009.
The Phoenix Mercury will now have two players representing at the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis.
Bonner was released by the Indiana Fever on June 25 after the team failed to trade her, marking an abrupt end to her stint with the franchise. The veteran forward played only nine games (three starts) this season, averaging 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
However, the Mercury have decided to bring back a former standout as veteran forward DeWanna Bonner is returning to Phoenix, where she played the first 10 seasons of her WNBA career from 2009-19. The WNBA reacted on Tuesday to the return of the former Mercury All-Star, who played just nine games this season with the Fever.
