A tornado warning has been issued for Savant Lake and Sturgeon Lake in northwestern Ontario. Here's the latest from Environment and Climate Change Canada on how to stay safe.

Summer in Ontario may bring with it warm weather, but last week's tornado in Lucan is a reminder that it’s also tornado season.

Severe weather warnings and watches were issued for parts of southern Ontario Wednesday afternoon. Just after 2:30 p.m., Environment Canada said meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing up to nickel-sized hail and heavy rain.

Environment Canada's tornado warning for eastern Ontario has ended. From about 3:20 until 4 p.m. the agency said a severe thunderstorm could possibly produce a tornado in communities such as Kemptville and Merrickville. It's not yet known if a tornado formed.

A muggy airmass draped over southern Ontario heading into this weekend will set the stage for a multi-day risk for strong to severe thunderstorms across the region. We’ll see the potential for storms to build each day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Some of the storms could turn severe with strong winds and heavy rainfall.

4:18 p.m. CDT - A tornado watch remains in effect across portions of northern Ontario as a line of severe thunderstorms moves through the region. A tornado watch means that conditions are favourable for the development of tornadoes.

Trees were topped and some buildings in Ontario County were damaged in what meteorologists said may have been a tornado on Monday evening.

Severe weather will pop up again on Thursday on the Prairies, with the focus moving east into southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario where very large hail will be a threat

Strong thunderstorms moving through southern Ontario produced a tornado north of London on Monday afternoon. A humid and unstable airmass draped across the region fuelled a favourable setup for strong to severe thunderstorms. One of the storms acquired rotation near the community of Lucan, resulting in a short-lived tornado.
