On Friday, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe signed into law a bill that allows Clay County to create a Sports Complex Authority. The governor was surrounded by local and state leaders at Chappell’s, a well-known sports bar and museum in North Kansas City.

The appointments came just days after a report became public criticizing vacancies on the commission, which left the panel unable to conduct investigations, issue fines or hold meetings.

On Thursday, Gov. Mike Kehoe signed Senate Bill 68, which bans cell phones in public schools throughout the day, including during lunch and passing periods. Some school districts already have no phone policies in place. But with this new law, every district throughout the state has to follow suit.

The new law would allow Clay County to create a governmental agency called a sports complex authority, similar to Jackson County’s which controls the leases for the teams.

Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed the repeal of a law that guaranteed paid sick leave for workers and inflationary adjustments to minimum wage. Kehoe signed the repeal on Thursday, July 10, and it will officially take effect Aug.

If the Royals are looking to move to Clay County, county leaders may now be able to offer them something Jackson County voters rejected.
