How did flag football get its start? Flag football was conceived by U.S. soldiers during World War II for recreation. It’s a no- or low-contact game with the ballcarrier downed by pulling flags from a belt rather than tackling or tagging.

Harford Community College will hosting a free clinic and open tryout for its women’s flag football program from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Harford Sports Complex. The clinic is open to girls ages 12 and older and doesn’t require any experience to participate.
