James Gunn's Superman came flying and surprised everyone. The biggest thing here was to fill the shoes and the impression that Henry Cavill's Man of Steel left on the fans.

"Superman" is well-liked and should play for weeks in the U.S., but DC's path back to tentpole powerhouse status will take time.
