The Associated Press preseason poll came out, and the finish for the top two teams was the closest in nearly 30 years.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State Buckeyes landed at the No. 3 spot in the Associated Press preseason Top 25. Texas, Ohio State's first opponent of the season, earned the top spot, setting up a Top 3 matchup between the Buckeyes and Longhorns.
On Monday, the AP released its rankings, culled from sportswriters around the country and signaling the imminent arrival of college football. Occupying its highest preseason ranking ever is Texas, which is looking to build off a season in which it beat Arizona State in the Peach Bowl before losing to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl.
The Penn State Nittany Lions were placed second, right after the Texas Longhorns, in this year's preseason AP Poll rankings. No doubt, James Franklin & Co.
