A lawyer for a worker charged with aiding the New Orleans jailbreak by 10 prisoners says the employee shut off water to unclog a toilet, not to allow the men to cut the pipe to open an escape route.

The massive manhunt for five of the 10 inmates who escaped a New Orleans jail stretched into a sixth day on May 21, a day after the fifth inmate was recaptured and a maintenance worker was arrested in connection with the case.

A maintenance worker at the jail was accused of turning off the water in a cell, allowing 10 inmates to escape, the Louisiana attorney general’s office said.
