The ghosts of Nolan Arenado are almost gone. Almost. When the Rockies released left-handed starter Austin Gomber on Friday, the club severed ties with the last remaining player acquired in the infamous 2021 trade that sent the disenchanted Arenado — and $51 million — to the Cardinals.

The Colorado Rockies have released pitcher Austin Gomber. Gomber was a key part of the trade that sent Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021.

On February 26th, 2019, the Colorado Rockies and All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado came to terms on an eight-year, $260 million contract extension that would buy out his final year of arbitration and keep him in purple through at least the 2026 season.
