You can now link your devices and apps with your Microsoft account using the link code without requiring you to enter your account details manually.

The Bedrock Edition has used Microsoft Accounts for cross-save, cross-play, and online and privacy settings for ages, but the Java Edition still uses Mojang Accounts.

This Fall, new Minecraft Java players will need to create a Microsoft account to log-in. Meanwhile, existing Mojang accounts will need to migrate in early 2021.

Mojang's original version of Minecraft, which millions play, will now require a Microsoft to play for security's sake, Microsoft says.
