This time the scythe is coming for one of the company’s oldest features—Gmail’s basic HTML view. In January 2024, that simple interface heads for the great beyond.
The Basic HTML function was helpful for people dealing with a slow internet connection but wanted to read their email.
"Basic HTML view will be supported until early January 2024. Until then, your organization can still use the current basic HTML view," Google shared in email notifications to Google Workspace admins.
Google will be discontinuing Gmail's basic HTML view starting from January 2024. This feature, which is over 10 years old, allows users to access their emails in a simplified format.
After the beginning of the year, Gmail will automatically change to its Standard view. Some visually impaired users prefer the Basic view.
