iOS 14 adds a new App Library view for organizing all of your apps. Apps are automatically organized in the App Library, and you don’t have to keep all of the icons on your actual home screen view.

Each app you redesign will not delete its old icon, so make sure you go back and find the original, remove it from your home screen, which will relegate it to your App Library (if you have iOS 14).
