Python and Excel can only really talk to each other through limited functions—xl () and =PY ()—that can only return code results, not macros, VBA code, or other data, Microsoft claims.

Users will be able to enter Python code directly into cells using the new =PY function, as Python will be integrated directly into the Excel grid, with no need to install additional software.

You can even create custom functions using VBA. Python shines with its vast ecosystem of libraries. It’s an excellent choice for tasks that involve integrating Excel with other systems.

Some members of the Microsoft 365 Insiders program can now try out the combination of Python, Excel and the Anaconda Python repository.
