The A’s made a slew of roster moves Friday amid their losing streak, including designating their longest-tenured player, Seth Brown, for assignment. They sent down center fielder JJ Bleday, backup catcher Jhonny Pereda and reliever Carlos Duran. Lopez was called up for his third stint with the A’s this season before making the start Friday night.
On Friday, Diekman announced his retirement in a lengthy post to social media.
Jim Bowden of The Athletic (subscription required) recently wrote about the Phillies potentially being in play for Chicago Cubs star Kyle Tucker in free agency. “Tucker is expected to land a nine-figure contract that starts with a 6. Several big-market teams, including the Cubs, Phillies, Yankees, and Dodgers, should be in play for him.”
