A tour bus returning from a trip to Niagara Falls overturned in upstate New York on Friday, killing five people and injuring dozens of others, some of whom became trapped or ejected, police said. The deadly crash occurred on Interstate 90 in Pembroke, near Buffalo, according to New York State Police.

The possibility of mechanical failure and impairment or intoxication of the driver as causes of the crash have been ruled out. The Indian national was identified as Shankar Kumar Jha, 65, from Bihar.

One of the five victims was named as Xie Hongzhuo, a 22-year-old student at Columbia University, which said it was "devastated" by the incident.
