An Axios report revealed the United States will allow Iran to continue limited uranium enrichement under certain conditions as part of its nuclear deal with the country.

The negotiations have been framed by Trump as both countries’ best chance to avoid direct military conflict over Iran’s nuclear program. Tehran, which denies seeking a nuclear weapon, has insisted that it will not agree to any deal that fully scraps its enrichment program.

The preliminary U.S. proposal came as a confidential U.N. report described an Iranian initiative that had multiplied Tehran’s stockpile of near-bomb-grade uranium.
