Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens provided an update on the meeting with Duke star phenom Cooper Flagg.

Stevens said the Celtics expect Porziņģis to improve over the coming weeks and that he will play for Latvia in EuroBasket, the quadrennial international championship series sanctioned by FIBA Europe. The competition begins Aug. 27 when Latvia squares off against Turkey.

The Celtics, of course, lost star forward Jayson Tatum to an Achilles injury in Game 4, while Kristaps Porzingis was battling what Stevens called a “post-viral syndrome, which is just lingering effects of a long illness.” ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne also reported that Jaylen Brown finished the season with a partially torn right meniscus.

Simmons wondered whether the Celtics should ship Porzingis off to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for 27-year-old power forward John Collins, who is set to earn $26.6 million next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent. “John Collins was in one of my get-the-Celtics-under-the-second-apron trades,” Simmons said.
