Attorney General Jason Miyares is taking legal action against 23andMe's plan to sell people's data in order to protect Virginians, just a couple of months after the company filed for bankruptcy.

AG Jackson’s office says that the company is allegedly attempting to sell the data of more than 15 million customers nationwide and those who sent biological samples or other personal information to 23andMe are at risk.

The genetic-testing company, which collected DNA data from users, is for sale in bankruptcy court. Now, 27 states and the District of Columbia oppose selling the data without express consent.
